Educational Group Visits

We encourage Educational talks at Hay Farm, therefore allowing children an opportunity to learn of the history surrounding these magnificent animals and the huge impact they had on our history.  We try to tailor the visit to suit project requirements where possible and provide extra activities, such as making traditional horse dress items, whilst visiting.

The working horse was an important part of farming life, however, it also played a part in industrial towns throughout the country.

Any teachers wishing to visit are advised to contact us and talk about their particular requirements. Children can also bring a packed lunch and spend a little more time with the horses in one of our picnic areas.

The Centre is also a member of the Children’s University Trust, please click on the icon for further details.

Social Group Visits & External Talks

Many social groups visit the centre, mainly to rekindle a little bit of history, however, in some instances a visit to us is not possible so we deliver a PowerPoint presentation~ at your venue.

When you visit the centre you will be taken around by a guide and told of the history of the working horse, this includes the machinery, breeding and of course interaction with the horses.

If your group wishes to visit us we would suggest that you also opt for one of our homemade picnics^ to make your day a little more special.

We Will Help

Never let a disability stop you from coming to the centre. We will do our utmost to help you enjoy your visit.  The majority of the areas are wheelchair accessible, but if you do have any difficulties we will sort them out.

These horses are extremely gentle and we have found in the past that children with a fear of horses or a disability do benefit from meeting them.
